In many ancient civilizations, the knot was a guardian , a gesture of intention. Each knot sealed a wish, a promise, or a protection. In Mediterranean cultures it was believed that a knot could hold energy, capturing fortune so it would remain with the one who wore it.

The braid, on the other hand, symbolized connection. Three threads seeking and crossing each other represented the paths that sustain life, body, mind, and spirit, past, present, and future, sky, earth, and sea.

When braided together, the hands remembered that everything is connected.
